Membership and Volunteering

Silver Stream Railway is run entirely by volunteer members that come from all walks of life, who do everything there is to do in running a railway including: restoring and maintaining our rolling stock, track, buildings and grounds, various administrative tasks, and operating the railway for the enjoyment of the public.

team

Members are spread right throughout New Zealand so distance is no drawback. Those who do not live close enough to be actively involved still make a valuable contribution financially to the upkeep of the railway. Main work days are Saturdays, when work on numerous projects that always need doing is undertaken.

Membership benefits include:

  • unlimited free entry and train rides
  • the ability to see behind the scenes at what we do
  • the chance to help with the activities at the railway, including operations, maintenance, and restoration.
  • a regular e-newsletter that keeps you up to date with the latest happenings

To operate the railway on a running day takes a Driver, Fireman, Guard, Station Master and a shop sales person.

We are always looking for people to fill these rostered positions, in particular shop sales people, guards and station masters. Full training is given so it does not matter if you are not experienced.
