Rail Safety Week 2023
This week is Rail Safety Week in New Zealand and Australia, so we thought this would be a good opportunity to remind the community that we are part of about…
We are open to the public for train rides on 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month and selected public holiday Mondays from 11am to 4pm, often with a steam locomotive in service, supplemented by diesel locomotive or railcar.
Trains operate over a 1.5km section of restored track that was originally part of the Wellington to Upper Hutt main line. Return trips take approximately 15 minutes return and run on demand through out the day.
OPEN on selected Sundays and Public Holiday Mondays from 11am to 4pm, all weather.
For entry to Silver Stream Railway and a all day ticket to ride on our train as many times as you like:
Children under 2: Free
Children under 5: $4
Children 14 and under: $8
Families (2 adults, 2 children): $42
We have EFTPOS and credit card (Visa and Master card) facilities.
Picnic facilities are available at our station and there is a shop where refreshments including drinks and ice creams along with a range of souvenirs can be purchased. Eftpos and credit card payment methods are available. The Workshop and Engine Shed is not open for viewing on regular operating days due to it being a workshop environment unsuitable for visitors.
On special event days ( Children’s Day, Father’s Day and our Santa Special) held throughout the year we open the workshop for viewing our latest projects and the locomotives not currently operating.
