Our thanks to the Wellington Community Trust for their contribution to our annual track maintenance costs. Every year we replace sleepers and upgrade the track formation to keep our trains operating safely for the enjoyment of our visitors. This contribution has allowed up to purchase new sleepers and ballast to keep our volunteers occupied for the year.

We just received word of a very generous grant from The Lion Foundation towards the purchase of materials towards the return to service of PWD512 our C class saddle tank loco. While no definite timeline has been set as to when it will return to service, once efforts on the new display shed and the legacy issues with the storage shed are concluded then we hope to concentrate on some locomotive work for a nice change of scenery.

Our first operating day of 2017 will be on the 1st January, the Christmas break allows us to perform major track upgrade works.

We have just received word that the Trillian Trust has granted us sufficient money to purchase turnout sleepers to enable the first turnout to be assembled for the display shed yard track. A big thanks to them for their support.

In January 2015 SSR embarked on a major project to construct a 650m2 display shed to enable some of our rolling stock to be displayed in a purpose built facility. Earthworks commenced in January and the foundations were laid in Febuary and over the winter months the site was tidied and the earthworks for the track approaches were completed. The shed construction got underway in October with completion of the building shell scheduled for November with the first items of rolling stock being moved in shortly after.

The 4 months that have past since the last report have been very busy, with 2 major events along with several other smaller events  and the preparation that goes into  making sure these days were a success. Our small team continues to be able to prove that our railway can still be successful, over 45 years after the idea was first mooted. The takings from these events totalled well into the 5 figure range, meaning we can continue to develop and maintain our assets for future generations to enjoy.
