Something for all the Diesel fans. On Sunday the 29th of April we will be running our vintage diesel locomotive De508 from 11am till 4pm. A great chance to view and ride behind a important part of New Zealands railway heritage.
C847. The focus of a lot of attention over the past few months, 847 is almost ready to return to hopefully reliable service. Work focus inside the firebox has seen the grate completely renewed with new firebars and carrier bars. The Westinghouse air compressor was overhauled by Triple R engineering in Palmerston
North and has been reassembled and refitted to the loco with overhauled air valves and governor.
L509. No work has been necessary to keep the loco operating however in the next few months this loco will also be in line for a new grate.
Fowler #5. The Fowler has also received attention to its grate with new bars to original pattern cast and fitted on one side.
De505. The low voltage wiring continues to progress with the engine governor solenoids, load control switches, oil pressure switch, compressor control switch all recently re wired.
Grounds. The winter weather has curtailed some of the outside work but great progress has been made tiding up at Hulls Creek Station.
Station. The inside refurbishment has commenced with the ceiling and half of the walls painted and a start made on the new counter.
